My proud grandfather, William King Swartz (1872-1957), commissioned this binding for a copy of my mother's first book of poems. She later "disowned" all the poems but kept the book for me. The binder, Lahey, bound for Morgan (see Frederick B. Adams, Jr., "Bookbindings," in
Ninth Report to the Fellows of the Pierpont Morgan Library 1958-1959, p. 56-63, 1959, for a discussion of some bindings bequeathed by Miss Marguerite Duprez Lahey, one illustrated). Miss Lahey maintained a bindery at the Morgan for 17 years before her death in Paris on October 20, 1958; see
